Guinness Celebrated

In what is being billed as a global celebration, Dublin will this evening see the start of an Arthur's Day party.

Designed to mark 250 years of stout production, the event will kick-off in the capital at exactly 17.59hrs with a toast to founder, Arthur Guinness.

Timed to represent the year of launch, (1759), Dublin will be hosting events simultaneously, including a major performance at St James's Gate Brewery and four studio venues as well as 28 more 'intimate' gigs at pubs around Dublin.

Celebrations then continue around the world in Lagos, Kuala Lumpur and New York with an impressive line-up of artists, A-lists presenters and international broadcast partners all taking part.

More than 60 hours or 3,560 minutes of live music will be performed in just one day at events in cities around the world and over 60 artists will help to celebrate Arthur's Day.

A major target is to get over 50 million people taking part in a global toast and raising a glass to Arthur Guinness to mark the 250 years since Arthur Guinness signed the 9,000 year lease on the St James's Gate Brewery in Dublin.
