Two Women Found Dead In Donegal

The bodies of two elderly women have been found in a house in Glenties, Donegal.

According to gardaí, the women, believed to be aged 80 and 87, were found yesterday evening.

Initial reports suggest the cause of deaths may have been a gas leak in the house. It is believed gardaí attemped to revive one of the women but was unsuccessful.

Gardaí were originally called to the house around 6.30 pm after being alerted by a relative.

The two women have been named locally as Annie 'Nan' Gallagher, a widow, aged 84 years and her neighbour, unmarried Sarah McDyre who was just nearing her 80th birthday.

They are both from the Derries area just outside the town of Glenties on the Donegal Town road. One of them had been visiting in the others house when the tragedy happened.

The bodies of the women were removed to Letterkenny General Hospital last night.

Officers are not treating the deaths as suspicious. The premises has been sealed off for technical examination, and postmortems on the two women are expected today.
