Delays Expected During Taxi Protest
A second day of marches by a group representing Ireland's taxi drivers is expected to cause major traffic delays in the capital.
The worst of the delays are expected for the city centre and on all approaches to the East Link Bridge.
Following yesterday's protest in Dublin city centre, An Garda Siochana said today they understood a second protest would be held today, taking place on Friday morning.
Taxi drivers are protesting over what they believe is poor regulation in the sector.
Gardaí have advised motorists to avoid the city centre and surrounding areas as there will be a number of diversions in place as a result of the dispute.
There will also be parking restrictions in place from early morning.
Two separate groups are expected to march to the Sean Moore Road, with one group from East Wall Road travelling over the East Link Bridge. The second group will start at the bottom of Sean Moore Road and travel up towards the roundabout.
Gardaí will be diverting traffic coming in towards the city.
This will bring a lot of motorists onto Pearse St and the South Quays and is likely to have a knock-on affect on other routes.
Gardaí are warning motorists to plan their journey in advance and listen to traffic updates.
A spokesman from the Irish Taxi Council, who organised the protest, said: "Drivers will be coming to Dublin from every part of the country to highlight and express their anger at the lack of action by this government to address our problems.
"Every day our situation grows worse, families are breaking up and our friends and colleagues are taking their own lives as a final solution that no one should ever have to take."
