Appeal Launched After Fatal Fire
An appeal for witnesses has been launched after a fatal fire at a house in County Kildare.
Gardaí in the Newbridge area investigating the blaze at a private house in Pairc Mhuire housing estate are appealing for assistance from the public in relation to the incident, during which one man died and two others were hospitalised.
As a result of the initial investigation, including an examination by member of the Garda Technical Bureau, one line of enquiry being followed is that the fire may have been started deliberately.
A post mortem of the deceased man is scheduled to take place later this evening at Naas General Hospital.
Gardaí in Newbridge are investigating the circumstances of the fire which occurred on Saturday at approximately 6am.
Neighbours alerted gardaí and the fire brigade to the fire at the house, which contained three occupants. All three were taken to Naas General Hospital, however one of the occupants, an 81-year-old male, was later pronounced dead. The two others - a male in his late 40s and a female in her early 70s - were described as being in a stable condition.
Gardaí would like to hear from anyone who was in the area between 1am. and 6am or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or who may have any information to offer that would assist are asked to contact gardaí at Newbridge Garda Station 045 440180, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
