Appeal On Man Shot Dead In Finglas

An appeal for witnesses has been launched after a man was shot in the head outside a bar in Finglas on Friday night.

Gardaí in Dublin are trying to establish a motive for the murder of the 42-year-old David Thomas, from Cloonlara Crescent, who was shot in the head several times outside the Drake Inn pub in Finglas village.

The incident took place as Mr Thomas stood outside the bar just before 8.30pm. A gunman got out of the passenger seat of a car and shot the victim a number of times in the head at close range.

Gardaí said today that it is believed the gunman ran from the scene down towards the Allied Irish Bank in Finglas where he got into a dark blue Opel Corsa near a taxi rank.

The car was then driven to Glasmeen Park close to Johnstown Park in Finglas, where it was abandoned and set on fire.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the Drake Inn public house or the nearby Centra shop in Finglas between 7pm and 8.40pm when the shooting occurred and may have noticed anything unusual to contact Finglas Garda station on 6667500.

In addition Gardai are also appealling to anyone who may have witnessed the car being abandoned in Glasmeen Court at approximately 8.45pm or anyone leaving the scene on foot to contact Gardai at Finglas or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-66-111.
