Appeal Launched After Assault
An appeal for witness has been launched over what Gardaí are calling a "serious incident" of assault in Dublin at the weekend.
Gardaí in Clontarf are appealing for information in relation to the attack, which occurred in Fairview Dublin, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
During the incident, a 22-year-old man received serious injuries, following what investigating Gardaí believe to have been an assault, which took place in Fairview opposite Marino Mart, at approximately 3.30am.
Garda sources said the victim sustained kicks and punches to the head and body. Detectives do not believe any weapons were used and are working on the theory that the attack was opportunistic.
The man was removed to Beaumont Hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries and said to be in a critical condition.
Gardaí are searching in particular for patrons who were at Barcode Night Club on Saturday night and they are urged to contact investigating officers. An Incident Room has been set up at Clontarf Garda Station - contact: 01 6664800.
They have also appealed for any taxi drivers who may have witnessed the attack or driven people from the area to contact them.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information is asked to contact Clontarf Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
