Paul Quinn Murder Anniversary Marked
Friends and family of a young south Armagh man brutally beaten to death by a gang of men armed with iron bars are to get together this week to commemorate his death.
The Quinn Support Group is organising an event as part of the family's campaign for justice - which is being held in conjunction with the second anniversary Mass on Friday (23rd).
The Mass to remember Paul Quinn will be said in St Patrick's Church, Cullyhanna, followed by a 'Campaign Review' get-together in the Community Centre where the first public meeting of the campaign was held four weeks after his murder on 20th October 2007.
The event follows on from continuing pressure to have the alleged IRA-linked killers brought to justice.
Stephen and Breege Quinn, parents of Paul Quinn - who was murdered in Oram Co Monaghan - met with Judith Gillespie, Deputy Chief Constable of the PSNI, in Ardmore police station in Newry on Friday afternoon.
The Quinns were accompanied by Jim McAllister, Chairperson of The Quinn Support group which was formed in the aftermath of the murder to support the family in their quest for justice.
Commenting on the coming campaign review, Mr & Mrs Quinn said they just wanted to say 'thank you' to all the friends, neighbours, supporters and kind strangers who have stood by them over the last two years.
They said: "When our son was killed we knew that our friends and neighbours would rally round.
"But over the last two years we have had expressions of support and offers of help in the campaign, not only in South Armagh, but across Ireland and from America and elsewhere.
"In particular, we are grateful to the many public representatives from north and south who stood by us when lies were being told about our son in the weeks after his murder. We hope to see as many of them as possible here in Cullyhanna and thank them personally."
Speaking of the high level PSNI meeting - organised by Ulster Unionist MP, Lady Sylvia Hermon - the family said they were assured there is ongoing work by the PSNI on the case, that regular contact is maintained between the PSNI and the Gardaí and that a meeting at senior level had taken place recently on the case.
