Man Leaves Scene Of Fatal Accident

A man has been arrested after fleeing from the scene of a fatal accident on County Cork in the early hours of this morning.

Two men in their 20s were killed in a head on collision of two vehicles at approximately 2.45am this morning on the N25 at Caherulton, Castlemartyr, County Cork.

Both cars were travelling in opposite directions and collided resulting in the death of two male passengers in one of the cars. The bodies of both men have been removed to Cork University Hospital.

The car also had a female driver and one other female passenger. They were also taken to Cork University Hospital where they are being treated for their injuries. Their conditions are described as being stable.

The other car had a male driver as it's sole occupant. His car was left at the scene but he fled the area. However, following an investigation of the collision he was arrested later at Ballinacurra, Midleton by Gardaí.

He has since been charged and will appear before a special sitting of Tullamore District Court this afternoon at 3pm.

He is in his 20's and is being detained at Midleton Garda Station under the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí at Midleton are investigating the collision and the road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by forensic collision investigators and scenes of crime.

Meanwhile, Gardaí in Limerick are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on Roxboro Road at approximately 2pm on Sunday afternoon.

During the incident, a 61-year-old male pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a car. The deceased was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital where death was pronounced.

Roxboro Road was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators but it has since re-opened.

Two Pedestrians Killed In Collisions On Tuesday
Two men have been killed in separate traffic collisions on Tuesday. Gardaí at Bundoran are investigating the first collision that occurred on Main Street Bundoran at approximately 12.10am in the early hours of Tuesday morning. In the incident an 18-year-old pedestrian was killed when he was struck by an articulated lorry.

Woman Killed In Multi-Vehicle Collision
An elderly woman has died following a multi-vehicle collision in Co Roscommon. Four other people were hurt in the accident. The crash happened at Cloonfree, near Strokestown at around 1.30pm on Monday (1 September).
