Sapper Murder Detectives Make Fresh Arrest

Police investigating the Real IRA murders of two soldiers at an Antrim Army base in March have arrested a 37-year-old man.

As a leading republican already accused of the shock killings continues a separate bid to be freed on bail, the PSNI arrested another man in Bellaghy today (Wednesday).

The man held today is also being questioned about the attempted murder of the five people injured in the 'Pizza' outrage at Massereene Barracks when Sappers Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey were shot dead outside the barracks in Antrim as they went to the camp gate to collect a fast-food delivery.

The killings shocked the country, as they were the first soldiers to be murdered in NI in 12 years.

The killings were followed by another republican murder, this time of a PSNI officer who was responding to a call for help from an old lady at her home in Lurgan.

Meanwhile, a bail application by high-profile republican Colin Duffy, who is already accused of murdering the two soldiers, has been adjourned at the last minute.

Duffy ,41, from Lurgan, has been in custody since last March when Sappers Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey were shot dead at Massereene barracks in Antrim on the eve of their regiment's departure to war-torn Afghanistan.

Mr Justice McLaughlin agreed to adjourn the application, which now to heard in a few days.

There was further tragedy for the murdered soldiers' regiment, as Jordan Rossi, 22, from Baildon, West Yorkshire, was killed after he was caught in the explosion near Sangin, in Helmand Province during the unit's tour of duty.

The regiment has since returned to a hero's welcome, parading through Antrim town on route to their barracks.
