Two Arrested Over Limerick Shooting
Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Limerick.
Gardai at Henry Sreet, Limerick are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident, which occurred in the Ahane area of County Limerick.
The shooting took place at approximately 11.30am yesterday, when a 26-year-old male sustained a gun shot wound. He was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital where his condition is not thought to be serious.
Subsequently, at approximately 1pm, two males aged in their 20’s and 30’s were arrested in the Castletroy area of Limerick. They are currently being detained at Henry St Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
Gardai believe two well-known Limerick criminals ambushed the young victim, who is also thought to be known to Gardaí and a drug addict, in a double-cross operation.
It is believed that the man was brought to the east-Limerick area under false pretences by a man known to him. The gunman, who is regarded as a serious criminal by gardai, was lying in wait for him and opened fire on the intended target as he got out of the car.
A car at the property was also seized for examination.
It is not yet clear whether the incident is related to organised gang activity in the area.
