Flood Alert Across Ireland
Motorists are today being advised to exercise caution while driving because of heavy rain overnight.
In Clare, flooding is reported on the main Galway Road (N18) between Ballyline and Crusheen.
Gardaí say the road is still passable, but motorists are advised to be careful and there is flooding in Passage West and near Cloghroe Church in Co Cork.
The back road from Bandon to Innishannon is flooded and County Council staff are working on clearing it.
While in Midleton, gardaí are warning drivers to take care on the dual carriageway at the Lakeview Roundabout because of flooding in the fast lane.
Heavy flooding is also reported on some roads in Co Laois, with flooding in patches around Waterford city.
Gardaí have also reported surface water on most roads in Leitrim, Sligo, Roscommon, Mayo, Louth, Longford, Offaly and Monaghan.

Flood Relief Scheme Announced Under New EU Regulations
Flood relief work has been announced for the Clare River, the first scheme to be confirmed under new EU regulations. Under the regulations, there is now a requirement for an independent assessment of the Environmental Impact Statement prepared for the scheme.

Fianna Fáil has called on insurance companies to provide flood cover to households and businesses in Cork City. TD for Cork South Central, Michael McGrath, has called on insurers to offer the cover again once major flood relief works are carried out in the city.

Galway is in urgent need of government assistance following repeated flooding across the region. Making the call, Fianna Fáil TD for Galway East, Anne Rabbitte, has also called on the acting Minister for Flood Relief to introduce long promised flood defence measures in the county, as well as requesting emergency roads funding.

Waterford Motorcyclist Killed
There has been another road fatality today with news that a 22-year-old man has died in a road crash in Co Waterford. The man died when the motorbike he was riding collided with a car at Ballymacague, Dungarvan, Co Waterford The collision occurred at 12:50pm this afternoon. There were no other reported injuries.
