Man Pronounced Dead After Collision With 4x4
A man has been pronounced dead after his car collided with a 4x4 utility vehicle in County Longford.
Gardai in the area are investigating the two vehicle fatal crash, which occurred shortly after 2.30pm at Agharra, County Longford yesterday.
A 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene when the car in which he was the sole occupant was involved in a collision with a 4x4 vehicle.
The driver of the 4x4 was taken to Mullingar Hospital.
The road between Ratharney, Co Longford and Ballynacargy (which is a back road between Longford and Mullingar) remained closed overnight and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Longford Garda Station on 043-50570.
Meanwhile, drivers have been warned to take care today following heavy rainfall and very wet roads with flooding in parts of the country.
Weather conditions last night were described as hazardous, with thunder, lightning and heavy rainfall across Galway city and county.
According to AA Roadwatch, the N17 is the worst affected route, with Claregalway village impassable last night after the River Corrib burst its banks and very bad flooding has been reported at Castlegar and Loughgeorge.
There is also a lot of surface water in the Abbeyknockmoy and Monivea areas.

Man Dies In Road Crash In Co Sligo
A man has been killed in a road accident in County Sligo. The victims' 4x4 vehicle veered off the road at Corballa and hit an embankment in the early hours of this morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Sligo General Hospital. Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

Shots Fired At House In Longford Town
A number of shots were fired at a house outside Longford town last night. Nobody was injured and minor damage was caused to the house on the Dublin Road. The attack happened just before midnight. It is believed the incident is the latest in a series of attacks, in connection with a feud between families and travellers in the area.

Man Dies In Co Kerry Road Collision
A man has died in a road collision in County Kerry. The man, 51, was killed after his 4x4 vehicle collided with a signpost in Listowel at approximately 8.40pm on Monday night. He was taken to Kerry General Hospital but was later pronounced dead. The road has been closed and diversions have been put in place.

Status Yellow Rainfall Warning Issued Across 11 Counties
Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow weather warning for rain across 11 counties. The warning, which came into effect at 7am this morning, is in place for Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan. The warning will remain in place until 6am tomorrow, when it will be reviewed.
