Teenager Killed As Car Flips In Galway

A teenager has been killed in a tragic crash in County Galway last night.

The 16-year-old male was fatally injured when the car he was a front seat passenger in left the road. According to Gardai the impact led to the vehicle being overturned.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was taken to University College Hospital in Galway with minor injuries.

Gardai at Salthill Garda Station in Galway are investigating the collision, which is believed to not have involved any other vehicles.

The incident occurred at Lettermore, County Galway on Sunday night at approximately 10.30pm.

The road is currently closed pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardai say they wish to appeal for witnesses to the collision to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Galway's roads are believed to be especially treacherous following the weekend's downpours, and a number of warnings have been issues by Gardai and motoring advisers AA Roadwatch.

The N6 from Galway to Dublin has reopened at Craughwell but is still closed at Ballinasloe, acoring to the site, while the Galway to Monivea Road remains flooded from Carnmore Cross to Cashla.

The N17 Galway to Tuam Rd is also closed at Claregalway and traffic is being diverted onto the Headford road.

However, motorists are also reporting up to one hour delays approaching Curragh Line where there is also a lot of flooding, however Gardai say the road is passable.
