Abuse Report To Be Seen By Cabinet
The interim report of the Commission of Investigation looking into clerical sexual abuse in the Archdiocese of Dublin is to be presented to Cabinet today.
The report, which is expected to be published on Thursday, details how the Catholic Church and State authorities handled allegations of clerical child abuse using a sample of 46 priests.
The Publication of the report had been delayed but was cleared for release by the High Court last week.
The High Court ruled that the report could be published but a specified chapter, which identified another person be removed as it was in danger of prejudicing future court proceedings.
Chapter 19 and all references to the person who is the subject of that chapter could not be published until directed by the court.
The judge said that he considered that all references throughout the report, that identified the person who was the subject matter of chapter 20 and his brother, could not be published until the court directed.
Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and Dublin's Rape Crisis Centre both called for abuse victims to be given the help they need when the latest official report on clergy who molested children is published.
The findings of Last year's Ryan report, which investigated abuse in Ireland's state and church ran reformatories, found harrowing tales which were met by outrage, and eventually led to a number of compensation suits against various catholic institutions and public apologies.
