Fatal Wicklow Stabbing 'Unusual'

An investigation has been launched into the death of a man in County Wicklow who suffered from a suspected stab wound last night.

Gardaí in Arklow are investigating the curious incident in which the man in his mid 40s died at approximately 8.00pm yesterday evening.

During the incident at a shop on Coolgreany Road in Arklow, it is believed the man entered the premises with a knife.

It is understood a woman was working in the shop when a man entered, before he was found over an hour later suffering from a fatal stab wound.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, which is now preserved by Gardaí technical officers.

The man's body remains at the scene and the services of the State Pathologist have been requested.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who may have been in the St Peter's Place area of Coolgraney Road between 7.30pm and 8pm yesterday evening and have any information to contact Arklow Garda Station on 0404-32304 or Wicklow Garda station on 0404-60140.

Gardai are particularly interested in establishing the identity of a man described as being 6'4" wearing a dark jacket that was believed to have been in the area at the time.

Gardai have said they are to provide further information at a press briefing at 11.45pm this morning.

Man Injured In Shooting In Bray, Co Wicklow
Gardaí have launched an investigation after a man was shot in Bray, Co Wicklow, on Thursday evening. The man, believed to be in his 20s, is currently being treated at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin. He is believed to have been shot in the People's Park in Bray at around 5.30pm. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Armed Post Office Robbery Thwarted In Arklow
A man has been arrested after a bungled post office robbery in Arklow. Gardai in the town say they are investigating the attempted armed robbery, which took place on the Tuesday. The attempted robbery occurred at approximately 2.10pm on when a male entered the Post office and produced what is believed to be a firearm.

Eight Arrested Over Finglas Shooting
Some eight arrests have been made in Dublin today, in connection with a shooting incident in the area on December 30. Gardai in Finglas investigating the shooting incident, which occurred outside “The Cappagh Nua” public house on Barry Road, said they had made the arrests after carrying out a number of searches.

Man Dies In Stabbing Incident
A 30-year-old has died and a second man has been injured in a stabbing incident in Tullamore, Co Offaly, shortly after 7am this morning. It is believed there had been an argument in a house in the area and a Polish man was killed. The other man's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
