Irishman Found Dead In Rotterdam
The Department of Foreign Affairs has announced that the body of missing Mayo man Noel Gill has been recovered from the water in the Dutch city of Rotterdam yesterday.
The 31-year-old father of two had been missing since 19 November.
He was last seen going home after watching the France-Ireland football match in a pub in the city centre.
A Dutch friend was the last to see him alive - crossing a bridge in the city as he walked home on November 19th between 4am and 4.30am.
Originally from Westport, he had been living and working in Rotterdam and commuted home to Westport every few weeks.
Although a water search had been carried out, his wife Cindy Gill said, during an interview after his disappearance, that she did not believe he would be found in the river due to a crippling fear he had of water.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing full consular assistance to the Gill family and is overseeing arrangements for the repatriation of Mr Gill's body.
