Bus Eireann Cuts Services
The State-owned bus service is to cut its frequency on a number of routes owing to a reduction in demand.
The company said it had experienced a 10% fall in passenger numbers last year and that it was conducting a review of routes with “poor levels of customer support”.
Spokesman Andrew McLinden said the company was facing significant potential losses unless cuts were made to bring services back in line with demand.
At the same time, Dublin Bus is also conducting a 'network review'. The company said the objective of the review was to achieve "a simpler, direct and comprehensible network of services" and that work on the review is progressing.
Today, Bus Eireann's cooling was yet further evident and announcing a number of delays and service reductions in the icy weather.
The company maintained this morning that the majority of Bus Eireann services are operating to schedule with some delays.
On it's website today, the service said that its 109A, 103, 104, 105 services are unable to service Rathoath, Route 118 - 0630Ex. Kilucan to Dublin was cancelled along with Route 111 - 0625Ex Athboy to Dublin, route 163 Dublin-Donore and the 0735 Grangebellew route 186. Meanwhile the 166 – 945 route Dundalk-Cavan service would only operate to Carrickmacross.
A spokesman for the company said: "Bus Eireann will continue to monitor this situation closely and we would advise customers travelling to and from Leinster especially to contact their local travel office for information on individual services.
"Bus Eireann would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused."
