Dept of Transport Thanks Local Authorities
The Department of Transport has issued a 'thank you' to local authorities for their hard work in tackling the recent severe weather.
In a statement released yesterday, the department particularly thanked the "unremitting efforts" of road workers to ensure national and other priority roads were salted and gritted in their area.
As the work to clear roads continues, Met Éireann have said that the severe cold weather will continue through next week and there is a possibility of more significant snowfall early next week, mainly in the east.
"This will require the continuation of the salting/gritting operations on the same priority basis as heretofore," the statement said.
"The Department said it fully understood that more prolonged severe weather would have a significant impact on maintenance budgets and have asked authorities to send information on costs and other details of gritting operations.
"The ongoing efforts of all road authorities are appreciated," the statement concluded.
