Body In Ditch Probed

Gardai in Swords have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of a male in a ditch at Dunbro Lane, Swords, Co Dublin.

They said that the lane is just off the main road at the back of Dublin Airport and that the remains were discovered on Saturday afternoon.

The scene has initially sealed off and preserved for technical examination and the body removed to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown where a post mortem was scheduled to take place.

Detectives believe the murder of a man found shot dead in a ditch may be linked to a warring feud between rival drug gangs.

The bloodied remains of John Paul Joyce were found partially submerged in water in the quiet country lane in the first gangland-style killing of the year.

An incident room has been established in Swords Garda Station and Gardai are asking anyone who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious over the last number of days in or around Dunbro Lane to contact them at 01 6664710.
