Cork Thieves Steal Empty ATM Machine

Bungling thieves have stolen an empty ATM machine in Cork city last night, according to Gardaí.

Officers are investigating the theft which occurred in the city overnight.

The raiders used a digger to steal the machine from a Texaco service station on the Model Farm Road at around 2.30am this morning. Gardaí are currently examining a van which was discovered a short distance away after the robbery.

The mini digger, used in the incident, had been stolen in Ballincollig last night.

Gardaí say the ATM had not been in use since December.

The incident mirrors a similar event last Saturday when a gang of thieves left empty handed after an attempted ATM robbery in Castlepollard near the Longford border.

The thieves to rammed into the ATM outside the Bank of Ireland on The Square in Castlepollard using an industrial vehicle.

The incident happened at around 5.49am and the ATM housing and the surrounding building were damaged.

The alarm on the bank was activated at around 6am and two men were seen fleeing the scene on CCTV footage. The Gardai are still investigating the incident.
