Cork To See Airline Expansions

Aer Lingus and Ryanair have today both announced plans for increased services from Cork this summer.

Aer Lingus said it would be providing eight new routes from Cork airport for its summer schedule with new services to Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey, La Rochelle, London Gatwick and Tenerife.

The part state owned airline said a total of 140 weekly departures would operate from Cork to the UK and Europe, an increase of 44 flights a week.

Aer Lingus Regional, a new franchise arrangement between Aer Lingus and Aer Arann, is operating six of the new routes - to Edinburgh, Cardiff, Bristol, Glasgow, Jersey and La Rochelle.

Meanwhile today, budget flyer Ryanair also announced plans for seven new routes from Cork Airport this summer.

The airline also said it would base one extra plane at Cork Airport for the summer months of June, July and August.

Announcing the move today, Ryanair’s Michael O'Leary said: "Ryanair's seven summer peak routes will mean that for the first time the people of Cork can escape to the sun by availing of Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares."

Ryanair's new Cork routes are to Alicante, Barcelona (Reus), Bordeaux, Faro, Lanzarote and La Rochelle.

The carrier said the routes will deliver an extra 40,000 passengers to Cork in the three-month period.
