Arrest As Weapon And Silencer Recovered
A man was detained in Limerick last night after Gardaí found a firearm and silencer.
Detective Gardaí – part of Roxboro Road station and assisted by members of the Regional Support Unit - carried out a search of a Hotel Room on the Ennis Road, Limerick City, at 10.30pm on Wednesday, as part of an ongoing operation.
Officers said this morning that during the course of the search a firearm and silencer was recovered.
A man aged in his 30s was arrested and is currently being detained at Roxboro Road Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939.
Meanwhile also in Limerick today, Gardaí have made renewed calls for the public to help them with their investigation into the death of a man pulled from the River Shannon last week.
Francie Greene, aged 48, with an address at Hartstonge Street, Limerick City formerly of Kilteely Co Limerick, was last seen alive on November 27, last year.
His body was recovered at Portdrine, Cratloe, County Clare last Friday evening.
Before his burial and funeral mass yesterday, Gardai made renewed appeals for information, as they believe Mr Greene may have been murdered.
"We are aware that people know something about his disappearance, and we're appealing for them now to come forward to us in confidence.
"We have set up an incident room in Henry Street on (061-212400) or of course people can contact our free phone confidential hotline on (1800-666-111) and of course we assure them of absolute confidentiality," said Superintendent O'Brien, Henry Street Garda.
