McAleese To Visit London Olympics Site

Irish President Mary McAleese will visit the 2012 Olympics site in London during a two-day trip to England this week.

Members of the Olympic Delivery Authority will greet the President before giving her a tour of the 2.5 sq km park, the Press Association reports.

During the visit, Ms McAleese is due to see each of the site's 'Big Five' venues - the main stadium, velodrome, aquatics centre, media centre and Olympic village.

She is also expected to meet some of the Irish contractors who have who have secured work on the site in Stratford, east London.

Victims Of Cork Disaster Named
All those killed in yesterday's fatal plane crash in Cork have now been identified. A cousin of the President of the Irish Republic, Mary McAleese's husband was among the six people confirmed dead in Thursday's airplane crash in Cork.

McAleese Honours British War Graves
Irish President Mary McAleese is visiting Gallipoli in Turkey to mark the deaths of thousands of Irish soldiers who fought in the British Army during the First World War. She attended wreath-laying ceremonies in the Gallipoli region where nearly 4,000 Irish troops died in a bloody five-month campaign in 1915.

President Higgins To Visit London
President Michael D Higgins is to visit London later this month on his first official trip abroad. He will begin his three day tour on 21st February where he will visit the London Irish Centre. The President will travel to the Olympic Park and meet Lord Coe, President of the Olympic Games organising committee.

'Olympic-Size' Screen Switched-on In Derry
People from Donegal will only have to cross the border and travel a few miles to Derry to immerse themselves in the coming London 2012 Olympics. Derry City is now well and truly 'Switched On' with the Stormont Culture Minister, Carál Ní Chuilín officially launching the Derry Live 'Big Screen' site.

Fine Gael Claims On Regional Investment 'Hot Air And Bluster'
Fine Gael's commitment to bringing investment to regional Ireland has been called into question by Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Niall Collins. Deputy Collins said that Fine Gael's claim that it is actively supporting well-paying jobs outside Dublin is nothing more than "hot air and bluster".
