Ballast Probe Sees Further Arrests
A Belfast court appearance is pending for three men who have been charged with membership of the outlawed Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF).
The trio - aged 32, 40 and 60 - have also been charged in connection with a pipe bomb attack on a house in Larne, Co Antrim seven years ago.
A fourth man arrested has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
They were arrested by detectives from the PSNI's serious crime branch as part of Operation Ballast which is an investigation into a series of murders and other crimes by the the loyalist paramilitary members in north Belfast.
The news comes soon after the PSNI took over the investigation from the Historical Enquiries Team.
This happened at the end of 2009 and saw local police taking over Operation Ballast, which was originally a result of former police ombudsman Nuala O'Loan's report into alleged loyalist and security service collusion in north Belfast.
