Taoiseach's On Final Leg Of Travels
The Taoiseach is in Washington DC today on the final leg of his visit to the United States.
Tonight, Brian Cowen will make the keynote address at the Annual Dinner of the American Ireland Fund.
His speech is expected to focus on the recent significant progress in the Northern Ireland peace process, following the Hillsborough Agreement and the vote last week to transfer policing and justice powers from London to Belfast.
The Taoiseach will also meet with US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, who will be honoured for her contribution to the peace process.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin will also meet Ms Clinton in Washington this evening for talks and are likely to discuss the recent outcome of the talks in Northern Ireland.
Mr Cowen will also meet with members of the Ireland America Economic Advisory Board and chair a meeting of American members of the Global Irish Network, where he will be under pressure to deliver on the long running push for indemnity for Irish Nationals living in America without visas.
The Global Irish Network was formed as a follow-up to the Global Irish Forum, which was held in Farmleigh last year.
The Taoiseach will also attend a business event hosted by Enterprise Ireland for Irish companies who are operating in the United States. Tomorrow, the Taoiseach will meet with President Obama for the traditional St Patrick’s Day celebrations in the White House.
