Four Arrested Over Waterford 'Serious' Assault

Four people are being held in Waterford after what has been described as a "serious assault" in the town leaving one man in his 20s in a critical condition.

Gardai said they have launched an investigation into the assault, which occurred at the Peoples Park, Waterford at approximately 11.45pm last night.

As a result of the attack two men, both in their mid 20s, were taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for their injuries. One remains in a critical condition.

The four being held are two males and two females, all in their 20’s, and were arrested this morning. They are currently in custody at Waterford and Tramore Garda Stations and all four are detained under the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí said they wish to appeal to anyone with information or who was in the Peoples Park or the surrounding area around the time of the incident and who can assist the Gardai with their enquiries to contact Waterford Garda Station 051 305300, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Two men in their 20s will appear at Waterford District Court today after being charged in relation to a serious assault at the Peoples Park in the city on Sunday. Two women who were detained in relation to the same incident have been released without charge although a file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Man Released In Connection With Attack In Waterford
A man arrested in connection with a serious attack in Waterford has been released without charge. A 22-year-old man remains in a critical condition after he was assaulted in Williamstown in Waterford city at the weekend. Another man, 22, remains in Garda custody over the attack. A file will be prepared for the DPP.

Gardaí Appeal Over Dublin Hit-And-Run
Gardaí in Dublin have appealed for witnesses to a hit-and-run incident which caused the death of an 87-year-old man. The incident happened on 30 September at Hanlon's Corner on Dublin's North Circular Road, when a white truck, thought to be a Mercedes, knocked the man out of his wheelchair and failed to stopped.

Two suspects are being held as gardaí in Mullingar investigate a burglary at a pharmacy involving a car being driven into the building. It happened in Oliver Plunkett Street in Mullingar at 2.15am this morning (Thursday) and saw officers later arresting two men aged 21 and 19.
