Two Arrested After €350,000 Drug Siezure In Dublin

Two men have been arrested in connection with the seizure of some €350,000 worth of drugs in Dublin last night.

Gardaí arrested the two men and seized a quantity of drugs following an operation in the Blanchardstown area of the capital.

The operation which was led by the Organised Crime Unit/ Garda National Drugs Unit & assisted by the Blanchardstown Garda Drugs Unit took place after the stop and search of a car at Blanchardstown Shopping Centre at approximately 8pm last night.

After searching the car, 30 kilos of Cannabis was seized and two men, both in their 30s were arrested.

They are both detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act and can be held up to seven days.

In a follow-up operation, a house in Fortlawn and a warehouse in Blakestown, both in Blancharstown, were searched and a further 30 kilos of Cannabis was seized.

A Gardaí spokesman said this morning the total street value of both seizures was approximately €350,000.

The spokesman went on to say the operation is aimed at targeting organised crime in the west Dublin area.

New Powers Allow For Roadside Drug Testing
The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross has announced the commencement of the drug driving provisions in the Road Traffic Act 2016. One of the key measures in the legislation provides for Preliminary Drug Testing, which will enable Gardaí to test motorists whom they suspect of driving under the influence of drugs at the roadside.

Man Arrested In Kildare Drug Seizure
As part of an ongoing investigation Gardaí in Kildare have arrested a man and seized a quantity drugs following an operation in Athy. Around 7pm a man in his 20s was arrested and Herbal Cannabis with an estimated street value of €96,000 was seized when a motor van was stopped during a Garda operation at Cardington.

Appeal Issued For Man Missing Since 13 July
Gardaí have issued an appeal for help in tracing the whereabouts of Zilvinas Duda, who is missing from Dublin. The 31-year-old has been missing from the Ongar area of Dublin 15 since Saturday 13 July. It is understood that Mr Duda's car, a Grey Audi A3 Hatchback, was found on the Staleen Road in Donore in County Meath on the same day.
