Extreme Caution Advised On Roads

Heavy downpours have created adverse conditions for motorists in the east of Ireland who are advised to exercise extreme caution.

Gardaí said motorists should reduce speed and maintain a safe diving distance whilst avoiding harsh braking and manoeuvres. Gardaí also asked all driver to use dipped headlights at all times.

There have been a number of minor crashes throughout the region because of the weather.

A collision involving an overturned car on the N81 Talllaght earlier has now been cleared. Traffic inbound on the N7 (Nass Rd) between Newlands Cross and the M50 is heavy.

AA Roadwatch have also urged motorists to slow down and drive with care as roads may be slippery following recent snow.

In Wicklow there are reports of snow covering roads in the Glencree area and AA Roadwatch also said that the Sally Gap and Wicklow Gap should both be avoided while slushy road conditions abound in the Roundwood area of the County.

Donegal is also facing difficult driving conditions and motorists have been asked to take care on higher ground in Letterkenny following earlier snow showers.

In Dublin, extreme care is being advised as there may be slippery patches on the roads following earlier snow showers. Motorists are reporting snowfall in the Stepaside, Dundrum and Glencullen areas. There is also poor visibility reported around Lucan and Liffey Valley due to snowfall.

There is also reported flooding on River Road between Ashtown and the Glasnevin Industrial Estate but traffic can pass on one side. Light snow showers are falling in the Finglas area as well.
