Appeal Renewed Over Farrell Murder

An appeal for information over the murder of Matt Farrell in County Offaly has been renewed one year on.

Gardai investigating the murder which, occurred at the Gaelic Bar in Daingean, on April 1 2009 said they are still looking for vital information from the public.

The body of Matt Farrell, 64, was found in his pub on the morning of April 1. A post mortem examination carried out later that day found that Mr Farrell died as a result of head injuries.

A murder investigation has been ongoing for the last year and Gardai have made a number of arrests.

Inspector Pat Murray of Tullamore Garda Station said: "Gardai are appealing for any person who has any information to come forward and to consider the family of Matt Farrell, who are seeking closure in the case."

The public are reminded that Crimestoppers are offering a reward in this case.

Suspended Sentence For Man Who Attacked Priest
A man who attacked a priest because “bad spirits” told him to has been given a suspended sentence. 56-year-old Liam Farrell attacked the priest in his church with a chalice before trying to gouge out the eyes of a sacristan. He also attacked a man who was sitting with his wife outside the church.
