Lorry Driver Suffers Serious Injuries
A lorry driver has been admitted to hospital after sustaining "serious injuries" when his lorry turned over in Longford.
The collision which occurred between 9.30am and 10am involved four cars, while the drivers lorry flipped over.
Gardaí said this morning that the driver of the lorry has been taken to Mullingar Hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries.
Officers in Mullingar are currently at the scene of the five vehicle collision, which occurred on the Westbound lane of the N4 near Junction 11 – the Longford side of the Castlepollard exit.
The N4 is now closed and traffic is being diverted along the old Longford Road out of Mullingar.
A Gardaí spokesman said the road is expected to remain closed for a number of hours and updates will be provided in due course.
AA Roadwatch this morning advised any motorists to "avoid the area" and that diversions were in place.
Meanwhile, in other traffic news, a bus transfer is in operation until further notice on the Sligo to Dublin Rail Line between Longford and Dromod due to flooding, while a stop/go system is in place on the Athlone Road in Roscommon Town from until 4pm and drivers are being told to expect delays.
Meanwhile in Kilkenny City, a trial one-way system came into operation in the city yesterday on John’s Street, Rose Inn Street and High Street. Delays are expected as motorists get used to the new layout.
