March Road Toll At All Time Low

The Department of Transport has confirmed that the number of deaths on Irish roads for the month of March has fallen to it's lowest ever.

There were 11 tragedies, which is the lowest for the month since records began more than 40 years ago.

Minister Dempsey said: "Road deaths are not only tragic, they are avoidable.

"Many more people have also sustained very serious, life-altering injuries as a result of road accidents since the start of the year.

"I am urging everyone, irrespective of whether or not they are travelling long or short distances, to please take care," he said.

The Minister continued: "I want to thank the Road Safety Authority and An Garda Síochána in driving the road safety message home.

"Road users must continue to step up to the challenge and improve their driving behaviour. This will mean safer roads, more people spared with fewer tragic deaths and serious accidents on our roads."
