'Medicinal Cannabis' Protest Held
A protest is to be held today to highlight the "medical benefits" of Cannabis to suffering patients.
Legalise Cannabis Ireland said the criminalisation of medical marijuana users is unfair and unjust and that it is hypocritical of the health and justice services to prohibit the distribution of information about the merits of using medical marijuana.
The group claims numerous tests and extensive research has been carried out to illustrate the medical benefits of cannabis and say the subject needs to be brought into the public light for examination under the present circumstances.
Todays protest has been scheduled from 12.45pm to 2pm outside the Department of Health at Hawkins House in Dublin.
A spokesman for the pro medicinal cannabis group said: "The refusal of the Irish Government to acknowledge and make available Medical cannabis to individuals suffering from Glaucoma, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, cancer, Aids, epilepsy and
Arthritis among others is an infringement of our human rights and is unfair and unjust."
The spokesman added that the main purpose is to draw attention to the subject and the evidence examined so suffering people can be able to get their cannabis legally.
