Armed Robbers Break Victim's Nose

A large amount of money has been taken after armed and masked men broke into the home of a businessman in a Co Antrim seaside town.

It happened in Ballycastle on Sunday night last, and saw two men wearing balaclavas entering an apartment in the Diamond area of the town between 9.30pm and 10pm.

The man suffered a broken nose as he was repeatedly punched to the face and his wrists were tied using his telephone wire.

The intruders threatened to stab him and said they were armed with a knife.

Keys and a mobile phone were also stolen during the incident.

The injured party told police that he recognised the eyes of one of the culprits and both men spoke with local accents.

Police recovered items of clothing, thought to be balaclavas and gloves, from close to the scene and have said they are following a definite line of enquiry.

Moyle District Council chairperson Cara McShane has condemned the attack, describing it as "sinister".
