Planners Stymie Carroll Bid
The ill-fated Irish developer, Liam Carroll has been disappointed again with news that application for a multi-million euro development in Dublin has been rejected.
The project in Clondalkin, Dublin would have seen the construction of a discount supermarket, offices and other retail space.
The Irish Independent reported that South Dublin County Council has said that as the planned development at Ninth Lock Road would extend over more than two hectares following a design revamp, an environmental impact study is required before the plans can be assessed any further.
However, the council did add that it is not opposed in principal to the project, which would be located at a former factory operated by CB Packaging.
The application for the extensive development, which would have extended over more than 14,000 sq metres, was made last year by Hallian, a firm controlled by Mr Carroll.
Hallian had originally applied for planning permission to develop nearly 20,000 sq metres on the site, but in response to feedback extended it over a larger portion of the site.
Mr Carroll was once one of Ireland's most prominent developers. However, following severe financial problems, a receiver was appointed to four of his companies in January.
His Zoe Group collapsed last year, owing €1.3bn.
