Cork Murder Suspect Charged
A man has been charged in connection with a woman's death in Co Cork last month.
Gardai in Middleton who are investigating the death of 57-year-old Catherine Smart in Midleton, on 4th April arrested the 46-year-old man last night.
Derrick Daly, of St Vincents Hostel in Cork city, was charged with the murder of 57-year-old Catherine Smart, a separated mother of three, at her home at Baelick Court on Easter Sunday.
Detective Sergeant Joe O'Connor gave evidence this morning of arresting Mr Daly at Anglesea Terrace in Cork city at 9pm and bringing him to Midleton. When charged and cautioned, Daly made no reply, he explained.
It is believed that the victim had suffered fatal head injuries.
Investigating Gardaí appealed to any person who may have any information in relation to this incident to contact the Gardaí at Midleton at 021-4621550, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

A woman has been charged in connection with the murder of two-year-old Santina Cawley in Cork city last month. According to reports, the woman (35) has been arrested and charged following an extensive investigation into the child's death. Santina was found critically injured at a flat on the Boreenmanna Road in the city on 5th July.
