One Arrested, One Freed Over Cannon Murder

A man has been released just as another was being arrested as part of the oingoing investigation into the murder of Anthony Captain, last June.

The released man is in his 30's and Gardaí have said a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A second man, who is 32-years-old, was arrested in Dublin City Centre yesterday afternoon in relation to the same investigation.

He remains in custody at Ballyfermot Garda Station under section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.

Anthony Cannon, of Robert’s Street, in Dublin’s south inner city, was killed in a fatal shooting in Ballyfermot on July 17 of last year. He was shot twice in the head.

Garda said at least 11 rounds were fired. The victim, who was on bail awaiting trial on assault charges, was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

He was the 12th victim of a gangland feud on the southside of Dublin, although he was not regarded as a major player in the infamous Crumlin-Drimnagh warfare.

He was gunned down near the junction of St Mary's Avenue West and Phoenix Street.
