Three Held Over Newry Shooting Probe
The police in the North are now questioning three men after a shot assistant was shot in the stomach during a failed armed robbery attempt in Newry at the weekend.
It happened at about 11.35pm on Sunday when a man armed with a handgun entered a gaming arcade at Upper Water Street in the border city.
Having demanded cash from a woman working in the shop he then fled empty-handed but not before shooting her in the stomach.
The woman was taken to hospital with injuries which are today being described as serious, but not life-threatening.
It emerged this morning that the three men had been detained by detectives investigating the shock incident when the victim, who is in her 40s, suffered the gunshot wounds.

At approximately 9.30pm last night, Gardaí observed a black Audi estate car with a partial registration number 151 G driving at speed through Monasterevin over the draw bridge, Main Street and on towards the Kildare Road.

The incident occurred at a car park next to the Islandbridge Court Apartments on 1 November. A Honda Civic rammed another car at the scene. Two occupants in the car then ran after the driver of the other vehicle and fired a number of shots.
