Soccer And GAA Games To Air

Live GAA Championship coverage taking place this summer will be covered by Setanta Sports - while RTÉ has been awarded the rights to broadcast Barclays Premier League soccer.

Broadcaster Setanta has already announced details of its first trip to Croke Park for Dublin's Championship opener with Wexford on Sunday June 13th at 4pm.



On Sunday June 20th, All-Ireland Champions Kilkenny will then begin their title defence, followed by a Munster Hurling semi-final as Limerick take on Cork.



There is another Championship double header on Sunday 27th June with two provincial semi-finals.

In Leinster there is potential for a Meath against Dublin clash, while in Connacht, Sligo will face Galway.



In July, the Munster SFC final and the Connacht SFC final will also be broadcast live on Setanta. 



Setanta will be showing a minimum of ten live games in Northern Ireland over the period June to August.

Meanwhile, Ireland's national broadcaster announced that it has been awarded the rights to broadcast Barclays Premier League soccer highlights for three seasons up to and including the 2012/2013 season.

Ryle Nugent, Deputy Head of Sport at RTÉ Television commented: "We're delighted to continue to show the best of the Barclays Premier League action so that the widest possible audience can enjoy the success of Irish footballers in the league along with all the top class football free-to-air.

"The strength of our expert analysis and the uniquely Irish perspective that our pundits offer on the league continues to prove a favourite for fans, with over 200,000 viewers tuning in to the top-rated programme last season."

Richard Scudamore, Chief Executive, Premier League said: "The Premier League is extremely pleased that RTÉ has invested in our highlights rights for seasons 2010/11 - 2012/13. They will continue to provide excellent coverage of the Barclays Premier League to our many fans across Ireland."

Setanta Makes £10m Save
A £10 million payout has granted a last minute respite for Setanta as part of its £35 million bill to the Premier League that is due today. According to reports this morning, the British league received £10 million today and Irish broadcaster Setanta will pay a further £10 million this Friday.

Irish TD Supports Plan For All Ireland Premier League
A Fine Fail TD has publicised a document proposing an all Ireland premier league. In a UK national paper on Sunday, Sports Marketing manager for Platinum One, Fintan Drury, outlined a 62 page plan for an All-Ireland Premier League in which ten clubs would compete for €4 million prize money in a structure similar to that in England and Wales.

RTÉ Creates HD History
RTÉ Sport will broadcast the first ever free-to-air HD broadcasts on Irish free-to-air Television this weekend, in what is set to be a bumper two days of sporting action. The HD broadcasts will be available on RTÉ Two HD, the first Irish free-to-air HD service now available on SAORVIEW.

U-21 Irish Striker Idah Signs New Deal With Norwich
Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Adam Idah has signed a new deal with English Premier League newcomers Norwich City. The 18-year-old striker has now joined up with the senior squad ahead of the new season. This call up follows an impressive spell for the club's Under-18s and Under-23s sides, which saw him bag 13 goals last year.
