Vote On Páirc Uí Chaoimh Revamp

Councillors in Cork have voted on a proposed €30m revamp of Páirc Uí Chaoimh GAA stadium.

The planned project would see the construction of a new 50,000-seater stadium and a "centre of excellence".

A new two-tiered stand would increase the capacity of the stadium by around 7,000.

The size of the development is still in question, however, with authorities in Cork being concerned about the negative impact the site could have on a planned Marina Park that forms part of proposals for the future of the city's docklands area.

The Cork County GAA Board wants six of the 25 acres of land purchased by the city Council from the Munster Agricultural society.

According to reports, however, the City manager is only prepared to donate two.

The GAA is hoping for solidarity amongst Cork councillors, amidst pressure from the city manager who has called on them to reject parts of the multi-million euro proposal.
