Mosney 'Holiday Camp' Revolt By Migrants
Many of the 100 asylum seekers who are due to be moved today from Mosney to other centres around the country by the Reception and Integration Agency are hoping to stay put.
A majority have refused to go and want to stay in the Co Meath former Butlins holiday village.
They said they have lived in the centre for years and it has become their home while they wait for their asylum applications to be decided.
Yesterday, people protested outside to demand being allowed to stay but a spokesperson for the Department of Justice said the Reception and Integration Agency said they wanted 111 single men and women to move from Mosney to other centres, mainly in Dublin.
The Department said the move is part of the drive to secure the best value for the €90m spent on the asylum process annually.
With the reduction in the number of asylum seekers in Ireland, there is now space available in the Dublin centres.
