Five Held Over Dissident Activity
A total of five arrests have been made as part of an operation investigating dissident activities in County Louth.
Gardaí have revealed that as part of their ongoing investigation into the activities of dissident republicans, two arrest operations were carried out, one in Dundalk and one in Ardee, which resulted in the arrest of five men and the discovery of ammunition and a balaclava.
Two of the men were arrested in Dundalk town while another three were arrested in the Ardee area of Co Louth yesterday.
At approx 11.25am a car was stopped and searched by the Emergency Response Unit, supported by local Gardaí, on Ecco Rd Dundalk. The firearm and balaclava were located during the course of the search.
Two men in their mid 20s and mid 30s were arrested and are currently being detained in Dundalk Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences the State Act 1939 as amended.
In Ardee a car was stopped and searched by the Emergency Response Unit at approximately 11.35am. Three males aged range from early 30s to mid 50s were arrested. Two are being detained in Drogheda and one in Balbriggan Garda Station under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939.

NI Men Among Four Charged In Dublin
Four men have appeared at Dublin's Special Criminal Court this morning charged in relation to a terrorist incident on the N1 earlier this week when a primed mortar bomb was recovered. The men are Dalton Mc Kevitt, 35, from Dundalk and Niall Farrell, 34, also from Dundalk.

Over 100 Arrests Made In Organised Crime Sweep
113 people have been arrested as part of an operation targeting organised crime. Gardaí carried out some 236 planned searches across the country in relation to the investigation. Around 4,200 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €3.5 million were seized at five grow houses in counties Cork, Meath, Wexford and Dublin yesterday.

Gardaí from the National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) have arrested 10 people as part of an ongoing operation targeting illegal immigration and work permits. A number of search operations have been carried by GNIB officers, working alongside the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) and the Department of Social Protection.

Arrests Made In Investigation Into Stolen Bicycles
Three men have been arrested in connection with the theft and sale of bicycles in the Mallow District. The arrests came after garda stopped and searched a vehicle in the early hours of Sunday 13 January. Garda had increased their presence in the area following a number of bicycles thefts in recent weeks.
