Two Killed On Ireland's Roads Over Weekend

Two male drivers have died in separate road collisions over the weekend.

Gardai are investigating the latest incident, which occurred on N9 at Bagenalstown, County Carlow at approximately 6.25am yesterday.

A 17-year-old male was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided with a wall. He was pronounced dead at scene. A 17-year-old male passenger was taken to St Lukes General Hospital Kilkenny with injuries described as minor.

The road is currently closed pending completion of a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardai said they wished to appeal for witness to the collision or to anyone that may have travelled the stretch of road between 6am and 7am and can offer assistance to contact Carlow Garda Station on 059 9136620, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Gardai at Roscommon are investigating the second incident which occurred on the N61, Athlone to Roscommon road, at Lecarrow at approximately the same time as the first collision.

A male in his 50’s was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the road and also collided with a wall. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Roscommon General Hospital. He was the sole occupant of the car.

The N61 road at Lecarrow has been closed and diversions are in place. The scene is currently being examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Arrest As Guns Seized In Co Monaghan
Gardaí have arrested one man and seized four firearms in Co Monaghan. The Roads Policing Unit discovered the guns when a vehicle was stopped during speed checks on the N2. A roadside drugs test was carried out on the driver before a follow-up search of the car uncovered four loaded pistols and ammunition.

Two Women Arrested In Connection With Cow's Lane Death
