Gardai Break Up Violent Brawl

Gardai have managed to break up a potentially bloody street brawl in Dublin yesterday.

Officers said they recovered an array of weapons including slash hooks, golf clubs, pick-axe handles and baseball bats when they broke up the fight involving up to 30 people.

The incident broke out shortly before 2pm when rival gangs clashed on Colepark Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin.

According to Gardai, a cruising patrol car spotted the mass of people just as the fight erupted and called for back-up. Gardai succeeded in breaking the brawl up.

Officers then confiscated the alarming assortment of weapons.

No one was seriously injured, but a 29-year-old man was taken to St James's Hospital with a shoulder injury.

Most of those involved had Ballyfermot addresses but some were also from Tallaght and Rialto. Their ages ranged from the late teens to late 20s.

A total of 10 people were arrested, and all were still being held last night.
