Three Still In Custody Over Stabbing
Three men remain in custody this morning after the murder of Derek McDonagh (28) in Tullamore, Co Offaly yesterday.
The men are being detained at Tullamore Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. Mr McDonagh, a married father of one, was fatally stabbed at the Arden View estate in the town.
A member of the Travelling community, his killing is being linked by gardaí to tensions between rival Traveller factions in Tullamore.
He died as a result of multiple stab wounds after an altercation in Count Offaly yesterday morning at approximately 11am.
A Garda spokesman said the altercation occurred in the Arden View housing estate in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, involving up to 10 individuals. "As a result a man in his 20's received stab wounds and was taken to Tullamore General Hospital," the spokesman said. He died there a short time later. The suspects are believed to be living on a halting site in the town.
According to witness reports today, Mr McDonagh collapsed on the road after being stabbed in the body and was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Gardai arrived on the scene and recovered what they believe was the weapon used in the killing.
One of those arrested also suffered stab wounds and received medical treatment for what were described as minor injuries.
It is understood the row began the night before between two families. Gardaí said investigations are continuing.

Women Arrested Over Emily Barut Murder

Appeal Renewed Over Farrell Murder
An appeal for information over the murder of Matt Farrell in County Offaly has been renewed one year on. Gardai investigating the murder which, occurred at the Gaelic Bar in Daingean, on April 1 2009 said they are still looking for vital information from the public. The body of Matt Farrell, 64, was found in his pub on the morning of April 1.

Gardaí at Tullamore Co Offaly investigating a shooting incident at Cluain Darach yesterday evening have arrested a male. At approximately 7pm on Sunday night a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were injured following a shooting incident outside a house in Cluain Darach, Tullamore by a lone gunman.

€150m Laois Hospital Project Completed
The completion of a major building project to develop an Irish hospital has been welcomed. Funded under the National Development Plan at a cost of €150m and providing almost 1,000 jobs, the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore was declared open by the outgoing Taoiseach, Brian Cowen.
