Two Released After Attack On Pole

Two teenagers held in connection with an attack on a Polish man on Saturday morning have this morning been released without charge.

Lukasz Rzeszutko, 27, was seriously assaulted on his way to his workplace at a fish processing plant at the Newtown Industrial Estate in Coolock early on Saturday morning when he was assaulted.

The attack is believed to have involved a number of men, and led to Mr Rzeszutko sustaining serious head injuries.

It is understood he was punched and kicked before being left in a coma at the side of the road. It is understood Mr Rzeszutko had lived in Dublin with his brother since 2007.

He had been on a life-support machine in Beaumont hospital since the assault. Some family members travelled from Poland on Sunday to be at his bedside.

A Garda spokesman said Mr Rzeszutko died at about 7pm.

A spokesman for the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Dublin said consular staff were supporting Mr Rzeszutko's family and were in contact with gardaí.

"His family arrived on Sunday, they came to Ireland to be with him," the spokesman said.

Gardaí arrested three men over the incident and one of them appeared at Dublin District Court yesterday in connection with the attack.

A file is being prepared for the Director for Public Prosecutions on the two released men.
