Fourth Road Death Tragedy Probed
There has been yet another road fatality with the police at Sligo Gardaí Station now investigating a deadly collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian early today.
It occurred at approx 5.45am on the N17 at Toberbride, Collooney - Galway to Sligo road - and saw the pedestrian very seriously injured at the scene.
The injured man was taken to Sligo General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The road is currently closed for a forensic collision examination, diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area. Witnesses are asked to contact Sligo on 071 9157000, the Gardaí Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Gardaí Station.
Already today, the Gardaí were appealing for witnesses following three earlier fatal road traffic collisions.
One occurred at Waterford Road, Kilkenny and saw a male pedestrian, aged in his 20s, seriously injured shortly before 6am on Sunday morning when a motorcar stuck him.
He was taken by ambulance to St Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Anyone with information is asked to contact Kilkenny Gardaí Station 056 7775000, or the Gardaí Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
Meanwhile, officers in Cavan are investigating the circumstances of a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N55, Kilcogy, Co Cavan.
A male, aged 18 years, was fatally injured, and a second male, aged 16 years, critically injured when the motor car they were travelling in left the carriageway at Dundevan, Kilcogy, at approximately five past midnight on Sunday. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cavan Gardaí Station 049 4368800, or the Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
Finally, Gardaí at Rathcoole are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the southbound carriageway of the N7 Naas Road at Rathcoole at approximately a quarter past midnight.
The driver of a car, a 22-year-old man, and his passenger, a female aged 25 years were injured when their vehicle was involved in a collision with second motorcar.
They were taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital where the driver was later pronounced dead.
The driver the second motorcar, a 28-year-old man, was also injured.
The southbound carriageway of the N7 at Rathcoole was closed for a technical examination and diversions were put in place for a time.

Eight Arrested In Dundalk Murder Inquiry
Gardaí investigating the murder of Aidan Myers in Dundalk last year have arrested eight people. Six men and two women were arrested this morning. It is understood that four men, aged 19 and 26, are being questioned in relation to Mr Myers' murder, while two men and two women are being questioned on suspicion of withholding information.

According to gardaí the man was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in hit a tree on the R130 at Baldwinstown, Garristown at around 21.30 on Monday night. The man, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two-Year-Old Killed In Waterford Road Accident
A two-year-old girl has been killed in a road accident in Waterford city. The girl was hit by a lorry as she crossed the road with her mother on Manor Street at about 10:30 on Tuesday morning, gardaí said. The child was pronounced dead at University Hospital Waterford. Gardaí said the mother was also injured but not seriously.

Witness Appeal Following Fatal Road Collision
Gardaí in Mullingar have appealed for witnesses of a fatal road traffic accident on Thursday, 17 September. A man, aged in his 40s, was fatally injured when the truck he was driving left the road at approximately 12:30. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Mullingar Regional Hospital.
