Snow Set For Return
Met Eireann is forecasting the return of snow, which is expected to engulf the entire island along with subzero temperatures.
According the a weather warning issued by the Irish Met office today, very cold wintry weather will develop across Ireland during Thursday, sweeping down from the north, and leaving a severe frost and ice on Thursday night.
Conditions are expected to gradually worsen from there, as through Friday and the weekend afternoon temperatures will be in the range zero to plus 3ºC, with night time temperatures typically minus 3ºC to minus 8ºC with widespread frost and ice.
Snow is expected to return and expected to fall during Thursday, Friday and Saturday, mainly over the north and west, but some falls of snow will occur elsewhere too, with a more widespread mix of rain and snow following for Sunday and Monday.
Meanwhile, Dublin City Council's Waste Management Services said it was advising customers that a full black/grey, brown and green bin collection service would resume this week after being disrupted by last week's adverse conditions.
Residents who did not receive a collection due to adverse weather last week are advised to present their bin for waste collection on the normal scheduled collection day this week.
A spokesman for the council said: "Householders whose grey / black bin is full may place additional waste for collection beside the bin on the scheduled collection day provided it is presented in a neat and safe manner. This is subject to a maximum of two bags per customer."
The council also asked Dublin Residents to continue to reduce their water consumption and not to leave taps running. The County has been on a reduced supply since the beginning of the week, with water reductions in place from 7.00pm to 7am daily.
The council asked residents to visit www.taptips.ie, which provided a number of "very simple steps" that people can take, at home and at work, to conserve water without adversely impacting on their daily lives.
The spokesman said: "We are fixing leaks as we find them but the reduced pressure in the system means that some of these have not yet come to the surface. We are also faced with the situation where more cold weather is forecast for later in the week. With the current programme of nightly restrictions, the public’s co-operation in conserving water, and finding and fixing leaks, we hope to restore normal supply as soon as we can."
