Foot High Snowfall Predicted
Another foot of snow is being predicted to fall in Munster and Leinster today, according to Met Eireann.
The Irish weather service said heavy snow showers would fall in Munster, Connacht and Leinster today, with amounts of four to eight centimetres generally, but up to eight to twelve centimetres are possible in west Munster and east Leinster.
The Met also said there was a risk of thunder in east Leinster.
The north is less affected with only scattered snow showers expected in north and west Ulster with snow falls of up to 3cm possible.
Meanwhile, the snow and freezing temperatures have caused widespread disruption, and are continuing to ground flights throughout Europe. Irish airports remain open however, and are currently working through a growing backlog of flights.
Gardaí are advising motorists not to travel unless strictly necessary and to keep to main roads and daylight travel where possible.
NI's deep freeze is also showing little sign of thaw as even suburban areas recorded -13C at 8am this morning.
Temperatures plummeted to minus double digits across Northern Ireland overnight, with the severe weather continuing to grip with temperatures plummeting to as low as -17C at Katesbridge, Co Down.
