Man Killed In Co Wicklow House Fire
A man has died in a house fire in Co Wicklow last night.
The fire took hold of the property on Ballybeg Road, Rathnew at about 8pm. The victim was in his 60s.
Gardaí are attempting to establish the cause of the fire and will continue to examine the scene today and have asked anyone with any information about the incident to contact them.
Meanwhile, fire crews have this morning brought another blaze under control at a former hotel building in north Cork.
The fire broke out at the former Central Hotel on Main Street in Mallow early this morning before the alarm was raised at 4am.
Firefighters from Mallow were joined by crews from Kanturk, Charleville, Midleton and Cork city in tackling the fire.
Extensive damage was caused to the building, which had been unoccupied for some time.
The area has since been cordoned off by gardaí for a forensic examination of the scene.
Gardaí hope the forensic examination will establish the cause of the blaze, which caused hundreds of thousands of euros worth of damage.
It is believed water restrictions over the last couple of weeks presented difficulties in putting the fire out.
