Gardaí Arrest Two After Fatal Meath Stabbing
A 25-year-old man has died and two have been arrested after a stabbing incident in Co Meath.
The incident happened early this morning at the house in Rathmolyon. Gardaí discovered the victim at about 1am before he was taken to Connolly Memorial hospital in Blanchardstown, Dublin, where he died in the early hours of the morning.
A 29-year-old man and a 59-year-old man, were arrested at the scene.
They are being detained at Navan and Trim Garda stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified.
The incident is on the heels of figures released at the beginning of this week, which revealed 47 people died violently in the past year, a significant decrease on 2009's figure.
Although the total number of fatalities was down, shootings again represented the majority of violent deaths. A total of 22 people were shot dead while 14 lost their lives as a result of stabbings and 11 people died as a result of assaults of various types.
Fifteen of the fatal shootings were the work of Dublin city drug gangs and at least three of the victims were not directly linked to any gang activity.
